To take one historical issue that has happened in Utah is a lot like picking once piece of candy from the candy store. There is so much to choose from and one can get easily distracted. However, when I began my research into the Mountain Meadows Massacre, the issue became one of clarity. In the research, I found a connection to the Native Americans, specifically the Paiute Indians, and their debated role in the attack on the settlers.
This resonated with me as at the time, in my Native American Studies class we were learning about the American sentiment towards the Native Americans at this same time period. It made me wonder if the Paiutes had, as many other tribes of their time period had fallen victim to the propaganda of the era. I t is something I look forward to finding out, though I expect to find a complex story, because, that, after all is what History is.
